Q. Do we need to have a domain name before we buy a hosting package?

A. Actually the registration of a website address is part of the Hosting Package. If a website address has already been purchased ready for a website it may be used instead.

Q. How do we get a website address?

A. Dealing with the website address is a service provided as part of the Hosting Package. The final choice of name lies with the client. There is a two part article in the SharpPlum Help section that offers advice on website address selection. If the Hosting Package to accompany the website has also been chosen, SharpPlum will deal with the relevant registrar once you have made your final decision. You need only inform SharpPlum of your final decision.

Q. Is there a minimum contract period?

A. No, there is no minimum contract that you need to fulfill.

Q. Do we need a hosting package for a web-ad as well as our regular website?

A. No, the standard price for the Web-Ad includes everything needed to publish the finished promotion on the internet.

Q. My website will not be from the packages section, will the hosting still be the same?

A. When a quote is given for the site development, an additional quote for the Hosting Package is also provided at the same time. Most standard websites are still quoted at the standard hosting prices.

Q. When our pricelist changes what do we need to do to update the website?

A. The vast majority of standard websites need to change their details only infrequently, these sites need only the basic Hosting Package. This package includes occaisional updates. Just e-Mail the changes to SharpPlum and allow a reasonable notice period (usually two full working days are sufficient) and you will receive an e-Mail confirming the update has taken place. For those websites which require frequent updating a standard website is insufficient and a content management system must be put in place. SharpPlum will guide you through this process should one be required.

Q. My E-mail is with BTinternet how do I actually get the e-mails sent to my website?

A. One of the features of the Hosting Package is an e-Mail address to match your new website name (eg sales@yourname.co.uk). The details for this new email address can be put into your normal e-Mail program (eg Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird). These details will be provided by SharpPlum.

Q. What sort of website address can I have from the hosting package?

A. All the standard UK website addresses (co.uk, org.uk, plc.uk and ltd.uk) are available and one is included in the standard Hosting Package.

Q. Can I have a .com address as well?

A. Yes, com, org, net, info and biz addresses are all available from the extras section.

Q. Do you put any adverts on my website with the hosting package?

A. None at all, adverts for your own products or services can be ordered as an optional extra such as the showcase promotion extra but no advertisements are placed on your website unless you request them.

Q. I received an automatic "receipt" from your site within minutes of emailing you. What is this and can it be done for my site?

A. This is an automatic responder and is available with some website packages or as an optional extra. It is sent directly from the website e-Mail address, you do not need to do anything. It reassures customers that an e-Mail has been successfully received and can deliver a pre-prepared courtesy message.
